Your Workout List
- 1 When you open GPX Buddy, you'll see all your workouts in a scrollable list at the bottom of the screen.
- 2 Tap any workout to load it on the map above.
- 3 Tap again on the selected workout or on the map to open the full detail view with metrics, segments, and more.
- 4 Workouts stored in iCloud show a cloud icon β tap them to download before viewing.
Swipe the sheet panel up to three different heights to give yourself more room to browse the list, or to focus on the map.
Importing Workouts from Apple Health
- 1 Tap the + button in the top-left corner of the screen to open the import flow.
- 2 If this is your first time, tap Request Health Authorization and grant GPX Buddy access to your workouts.
- 3 Use the date picker to choose how far back you want to look, and the activity type picker to filter by sport (running, cycling, hiking, etc.).
- 4 Tap the map icon to preview them on the map, or tap the checkbox to select them for import.
- 5 Once you've made your selection, tap the Import button. You can cancel at any time while the import is running.
- 6 Toggle Show Imported to see workouts you've already brought in (they'll show a checkmark badge).
GPX Buddy Pro unlocks workouts older than 30 days. Free users can only import from the past 30 days. Upgrade in Settings β Upgrade to Pro.
Enable Auto Import in Settings to have GPX Buddy automatically pull in new workouts as you complete them β no manual steps needed!
Viewing a Workout on the Map
- 1 Tap any workout in the list β the map will zoom to fit the entire route automatically.
- 2 Pinch to zoom and drag to pan the map freely. Direction arrows along the route show which way you were going.
- 3 Tap the viewfinder icon (on the right side of the map) to re-center the view on your route at any time.
- 4 Tap the location icon to show your current GPS position on the map alongside the route.
- 5 In the detail view, use the segment navigator (β β) to step through each segment and see it highlighted on the map.
Tap a segment in the Segments list to jump straight to it on the map and see its individual pace and stats. Long-press a segment to export it into a GPX file.
GPX Buddy Pro unlocks custom segment lengths (1 km / 2 km) so you can analyze your workout in even finer detail.
Searching & Filtering Workouts
- 1 Use the search bar at the top of the list to instantly find workouts by name, distance, or label.
- 2 Tap the filter icon next to the search bar to open the Filters panel.

In the Filters panel you can:
- Set a date range to show only workouts within a period
- Filter by one or more activity types (running, cycling, hikingβ¦)
- Set a distance range with the min/max sliders
- Filter by color labels you've assigned to workouts
- Switch between All / Favorites / Labeled modes
- 4 Tap Clear Filters to reset everything and see your full workout list again.
Managing Workouts
- 1 Long-press any workout in the list to open a context menu with all management options.
- 2 Rename β Give your workout a more memorable name. A dialog appears with the current name pre-filled.
- 3 Favorite β Tap Favorite On to flag a workout so you can filter to it quickly. Tap the heart icon in the toolbar when a workout is open to toggle it too.
- 4 Labels β Assign a color label to tag and group workouts visually. Tap Labels in the context menu and pick a color.
- 5 Move to iCloud / Move to Device β Keep your workouts in iCloud to save local storage, or move them to your device for offline access.
- 6 Adjust Date β Fixes the file's creation date to match the actual workout date stored in the GPX file.
- 7 Delete β Permanently removes the workout. You'll be asked to confirm before anything is deleted.
- 8 Alternatively, swipe left on a workout row to reveal a quick delete button.
Customizing the Route
- 1 Change map style: Tap the map icon on the right side of the map and choose between Standard, Satellite, Hybrid, or Muted.
- 2 Change route color: Tap the waveform/gradient icon β select None for a solid color, then pick any color from the color picker. β¦ Pro
- 3 Pace gradient: Tap the gradient icon β select Pace. The route will be colored from fast (cool tones) to slow (warm tones) so you can spot where you slowed down. β¦ Pro
- 4 Elevation gradient: Select Elevation from the gradient menu to color the route by altitude β perfect for spotting hills and descents. β¦ Pro
- 5 Heart Rate gradient: Select Heart Rate to visualize workout intensity along the route (requires a heart rate-enabled device). β¦ Pro
- 6 You can set a default gradient and color in Settings so every workout opens with your preferred look.
Route color and all gradient modes require GPX Buddy Pro. Upgrade in Settings β Upgrade to Pro to unlock the full palette.
Route Replay β¦ Pro
- 1 Open a workout's detail view by tapping it in the list.
- 2 Tap the Play button in the toolbar to start replaying your route. A dot will travel along the path, recreating your workout in real time.
- 3 Use the speed stepper (+ / β buttons) to adjust the replay speed from 1Γ all the way up to 20Γ.
- 4 Tap the Stop button to end the replay at any time.
Route Replay is a Pro feature. Upgrade in Settings β Upgrade to Pro to relive your workouts.
AI Workout Insights β¦ Pro
- 1 Open a workout's detail view and scroll down to the Insights section.
- 2 Tap Generate Insight. GPX Buddy will analyze your pace, elevation, heart rate, and segments using AI.
- 3 The insight appears as a short, friendly summary highlighting your performance, effort level, and interesting moments in the workout.
- 4 To remove an insight, tap the delete icon and confirm. You can always regenerate it later.
AI Insights require GPX Buddy Pro. Upgrade in Settings β Upgrade to Pro to get personalized analysis for every workout.
Bulk Actions
- 1 Tap Edit in the list toolbar to enter selection mode. Checkboxes will appear next to each workout.
- 2 Tap the checkboxes to select as many workouts as you like.

A toolbar appears with bulk actions:
- Labels β Apply a color label to all selected workouts
- Favorite / Unfavorite β Toggle favorites in bulk
- Download / Remove Download β Manage local vs. iCloud copies
- Share β Share all selected GPX files at once
- Upload to Strava β Batch upload to social media
- Move to Cloud / Move to Device β Reorganize storage
- Adjust Dates β Fix creation dates for all selected
- Delete β Remove all selected (with confirmation)
- 4 Merge β Select 2 or more workouts and tap Merge to combine them into a single GPX file. β¦ Pro
Merging workouts requires GPX Buddy Pro. All other bulk actions are available to everyone.
Settings & Preferences
- 1 Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner of the workout list to open Settings.
- 2 Metric / Imperial β Toggle between kilometers and miles to match your preference.
- 3 Haptic Feedback β Turn on or off the subtle vibrations that accompany button taps.
- 4 Auto Import β When enabled, GPX Buddy will automatically import new workouts from Apple Health as soon as they're recorded.
- 5 Body Weight β Enter your weight so GPX Buddy can include it in workout calculations.
- 6 Default Map Type β Choose whether new routes open on a Standard, Satellite, or Muted map by default.
- 7 Default Gradient β Set the default gradient mode (None, Pace, Elevation, Heart Rate) applied when you open any workout. β¦ Pro
- 8 Auto Upload β Automatically push new workouts to Strava as they're imported, when you have a connected account.
Widgets β¦ Pro
- 1 Long-press your iPhone or iPad Home Screen until icons start wiggling, then tap the + button in the top-left corner.
- 2 Search for GPX Buddy in the widget gallery.

Choose from three widget types:
- Last Workout Map β A snapshot of your most recent route (small or large)
- Distance Over Time β A bar chart of recent workout distances (medium)
- Duration Over Time β A bar chart of recent workout durations (medium)
- 4 Tap the widget to jump straight into GPX Buddy. Data refreshes automatically after each import.
Widgets update automatically after you import a new workout, so your Home Screen always shows your latest activity.
