Pace Buddy

Privacy Policy

Overview

Pace Buddy is a running coach for iPhone and Apple Watch. It is built on a simple principle: your data stays on your device. There is no account, no analytics, and no third-party services. The app does not collect your data.

1. No Account

There is no sign-up and no login. Your identity is your own iCloud account. We never create a profile for you or ask for a password.

2. Health Data

During a run the watch app reads your heart rate and distance to guide your pace, and saves each run to Apple Health as a workout — with its route and an effort score.

The iPhone app reads the runs in Health, and their routes, to mark which days of your plan are done and to show each run on a map.

This data lives in your Health store. It is not shared with us or anyone else and is never stored off your device. The one exception is the weather for a past run (see Weather below): to fetch it, that run's starting location and time are sent to Apple. You control Health access in the Health app and can turn it off at any time.

3. Location

The watch app records your route during a run so the saved workout shows where you went. Location is optional — if you deny it, the run works normally, just without a route map. The iPhone app never asks for your location; the only routes it sees are the ones in Health, described above.

4. Calendar

If you choose Export to Calendar, Pace Buddy creates a calendar of its own, named after your plan, and adds the plan's workouts to it. It asks for full calendar access so that exporting again after the plan changes can update and remove those events. It only reads and writes events in that calendar, never your other calendars, and nothing leaves your device beyond your own calendar sync. Calendar access is optional.

5. Weather

When you view a past run, the app may show the weather at the time and place of that run. To fetch it, the run's starting location and time are sent to Apple's WeatherKit. Nothing is retained off your device; only the temperature and humidity are kept, on your device. Apple Weather is credited on any screen that shows it.

6. iCloud Sync

Your training plan and its progress are stored in your own iCloud account so they sync between your devices and reach your watch. This is Apple's iCloud — we have no server and never see this data. If you are not signed in to iCloud, the plan is stored locally on the device instead.

App settings are stored locally in your device's standard storage and in your iCloud key-value store so they match across your devices. They never reach us.

7. No Tracking, No Analytics, No Third-Party SDKs

Pace Buddy does not track you across apps or websites, contains no advertising, and links no third-party analytics or crash-reporting code. The only external frameworks used are Apple's own system frameworks. The only diagnostics we may receive are Apple's aggregated, non-identifying reports (MetricKit and App Store Connect), which you control in your device settings.

8. Children's Privacy

Pace Buddy is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no data is collected at all, the app is safe for users of all ages.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. We will never introduce data collection without clearly communicating it first.
