Batocchio

Help & Support

The Italian rummy card game for 2 or 4 players, online over Game Center

🃏

The Cards

  • Two full decks shuffled together, 3 up to King in four suits.
  • An Ace is played either below the 3 or above the King.
  • Jokers and the two black 2s (the Pinellas) are wild. Together they're called pieces and stand in for any missing card.
👆

Your Turn

  • You start with 13 cards.
  • Draw one: the face-up card on the table, or the top of the pile.
  • Meld as many valid combinations as you like — or none.
  • Discard one card face-up to end your turn.
🧩

Combinations

  • Sequence — 3 or more cards in a row, same suit.
  • Tris — three cards of the same value.
  • Poker — four cards of the same value.
  • Batocchio — a full sequence in one suit, Ace/3 through King/Ace.
đŸ‘Ĩ

Melding

  • Add to your own combinations already on the table anytime.
  • In a 4-player game you can add to your partner's combinations too — but only after you've opened, by laying down at least a 3-card sequence.
  • A combination can hold any number of pieces, but no two pieces may sit next to each other.
↊ī¸

Taking a Piece Back

  • Swap a piece on the table for the real card it stands for, and take the piece into your hand.
  • A Pinella can only come from your own or your partner's combinations, never an opponent's.
  • A Pinella you take must go straight back into the same sequence, and stays there until that sequence becomes a full Batocchio.
🏁

Closing the Round

  • Complete at least one full Batocchio.
  • Then discard your last card to go out and end the round.
🏆

Scoring

Cards you meld count for you. Cards left in your hand count against you. Rounds add up across a match — first to 5000 wins.

Playing Online

  • Batocchio is played online through Game Center. Sign in with your Apple Account the first time you open the app.
  • Start a match from the games list: a new 2-player or 4-player match. Invite a Game Center friend, or let Game Center find opponents for you.
  • It's turn-based. When it's your turn, Game Center sends you a notification. Take your turn, discard, and play passes to the next player.
  • The whole match — every card, meld, and score — travels inside the Game Center match itself. There's no account to create and no server of ours; Apple stores and forwards the game.
  • Tap the reload button in a match to fetch its latest state.
💡 In a 4-player game you play in teams — your partner sits across the table, and your scores are added together.

Troubleshooting

  • "Sign in to Game Center" — Open the Settings app, tap Game Center, and sign in with your Apple Account. Batocchio needs Game Center for online play.
  • A turn didn't show up — Tap reload inside the match to fetch the latest state, and check that Game Center notifications are turned on in Settings.
  • Can't find a friend to invite — Only Game Center friends who also have Batocchio, and who have added you back, will appear in the picker.
  • Leaving a match — Swipe a match in the list, or use its menu, to leave. Leaving forfeits that match.
